Cosmic Frieda
This piece is a combination of
etched ortho litho film, acrylic
medium, dry pigment, iridescent
pigment, resin, Plexiglas, and wood.
Each flower is an individual
photograph printed on film. The
sunspray on the bottom is also a
photograph printed on film. Each
photograph is cut to size, etched,
filled with dry pigment and then
fixed to preserve the dry pigment.
They are assembled onto Plexiglas
and the frames of the panels, and
then glued in place. An acrylic
medium with pearlescent dry pigment
is then painted on the Plexiglas in
the spaces between the film pieces.
This was done twice in order to get
the right consistency and
opaqueness. The front of each panel
is then covered with clear resin.
The back of back of each panel is
covered with resin that is mixed
with an iridescent interference red
pigment. This pigment changes the
color and the clarity of the entire
screen when it is placed in
different lighting situations. The
changes can range from a transparent
green/red tint, to pearlized opaque
with red highlights.
This screen has two resin pours on
each side of the panels. The wood
frame is painted to echo the design
of the panels.
The screen is then assembled with
painted hinges to match the piece,
and steel leveling feet are attached
for added security, and height.
